Care for pets and livestock
Caring for pets and livestock is a day to day thing we deal with; but what would you do in a disaster situation? This isn’t something that many pet or livestock owners really think about in their daily grind. However, it is just as important as having a disaster plan in place for your family.
For larger animals such as horses, goats, and cattle you should make sure that your disaster preparations are made in advance. Making sure that all of your animals have a form of identification, to ensure their safe return. If you are able to, have an evacuation plan with different routes planned. Making sure you have food available for your animals. If you aren’t able to evacuate your animals; turn them out or provide them with adequate shelter for the disaster.
Pets are a little easier then livestock, simply due to their overall size difference. Taking care to have extra pet food and water in your own personal storage for your pets is a great idea. They are after all a part of your family! |
