Surviving power outages
While we often times consider power outages as little more than a nuisance; their danger can pose a very real threat to our families. This is especially true when a power outage lasts for longer than a day or two during the long winter months.
Even in the case that you feel that you will never experience a power outage, it is important to understand what surviving power outages means. Whether it is keeping a flashlight, extra batteries, blankets, an emergency radio, first aid kit, bottled water, and food available; to having road flares in the case of a prolonged power outage caused by a disaster; even candles are a great means of surviving power outages, simply because they provide some warmth and light.
Some other things you may want to keep at hand are a can opener, cash, wood, coals and a grill, a generator, a phone, and surge protectors to protect your appliances from when the power is once again restored. As you can see, power outages are quite simple to survive if you have the appropriate tools at hand. |
